Vote The Album Of The Year 2012

[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]es, we Ska people can call ourselves lucky to have such a great tradition. A pool of old music that we can listen to again and again. That’s the foundation. From the first releases of The Skatalites to the legendary 2Tone recordings.

But what’s even better: It doesn’t stop there. The pool becomes bigger every year with bands from all over the world adding their take on Ska, Rocksteady and Early Reggae. Today’s originators need not come from Jamaica or England, they can also live in Denmark, Russia or India. They may be 18 or 58. That’s what is keeping our music alive. While The Skatalites (with new members) are still doing their thing. Wow!

At the end of every year it is time to take a look at how the pool of music has become bigger with the “Album of The Year 2012” poll. It runs only for a few days, from 28th December 2012 to January 6th 2013, 23:59 Central European Time. Throughout 2012 we have regularly updated a list with the new albums in a list post, now it’s your turn to vote for your favourite record of the year. This poll was taken over from the blog joescholes.com, where the winners were Alaska (from Switzerland) in 2009, Red Soul Community (Spain) (2010) and Desorden Publico (Venezuela) in 2011.

We have made some changes this year. Since it is hard for us as fans to decide on the one record that stood out, we now allow every voter three (3!) votes. And to let people know about the poll via youtube, we produced a video, in which I play parts of some songs from Obi Fernandez, Dr. Ring Ding and Babylove & The Van Dangos. It’s fun to watch. Go further down to watch it.

This is the first year for REGGAE STEADY SKA. We started the website in the summer of 2012. And we are very pleased about how it is going so far. We loved the great feedback we received for the Madness Album Series, the start of REGGAE STEADY SKA TV, The Ultimate Christmas Wishlit For Ska People, and more.

If you like to be updated, please sign up for the newsletter. We can also become friends via Facebook or Twitter or Pinterest. But since the rules of the social media big names might be changing again, we recommend you stick with the newsletter. Thanks.

And if you like to get involved with REGGAE STEADY SKA, just write an email to joe.scholes@gmail.com. Thanks, and now have your vote. Use the comment section for shoutouts to your favourite bands.
The poll is closed: The results will be published on January 7th 2013, at 12:00 (Central European Time).

  6. I have voted for Specialized, suffering from cancer myself my heart goes out to children who have to go through the same and worse, my heart goes out for their strength and courage of the children and their loved ones. The album is raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and is completely non profit. I know one of the bands and they have worked so hard for this charity with not only this album but more, and deserve to be recognised for their contribution not only to raise important money for charity, but also because they completely rock!! Good luck and if you have not voted yet, please vote for Specialized. xx

It’s great to see that this many fabolous albums has been released in 2012 and it’s heart warming to see that some of them had such noble causes as the Specialized project. All our respect goes out for them!

  13. Hello,

Up to me all albums are good, have their own styles, and the most I love David Hillyard & The Rocksteady 7 “Friends & Enemies”, the only thing is that the album came out in December, so we doesn’t have enough time to show it to share this lovely music with all people!!!!!!!!!
