• No #1 resource for the global ska community

The history of Ska music is a story of inventions and re-inventions. This is how the music has been able to stay fresh for more than 50 years. You try something new, you look back at the originators, you look for inspirations in other areas of the Arts.

Enter Ska Punk

One addition to the mix was started in the late 1980s. A bunch of US American bands who were influenced by 2Tone and Hardcore were beginning to be labeled Ska Punk. Traditional Rude Boys and Girls looked (and still look)down upon the sound as not being true to the Jamaican origins. But Ska Punk also became the sound that attracted a new generation of college kids to Ska. Many of them later dug deeper in the history and became attracted to Rocksteady and Early Reggae, too.

Today

Like other Ska styles, Ska Punk crossed many borders and is nowadays popular in many countries from Spain to Japan, Indonesia to Venezuela. While some bands have more than 20 years of heavy playing under their belt, while others just started a few weeks back at school.

Here’s a list of Ska Punk bands: Save Ferris, Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, Operation Ivy, Goldfinger, Less Than Jake, Ska-P, Hog Hoggidy Hog, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rancid,  Fishbone, Sublime, Mustard Plug, Mephiskapheles, Sondaschule, Rantanplan, Dallax and the list goes on and on.
